Summer Camping

Last year we camped in June and it was so hot I thought I would never camp in the summer months again, but here we are.

Thunderstorms skirted all around us and kept us somewhat cooler this trip.

Johnny and Jeffrey just couldn’t get enough fishing.

This was my catch – too small – had to go back :(

Mom and Judy joined us and we took our turn in the little boat.  We fished and fished and fished but nothing - but we sure had fun trying!

Sadie enjoyed some fun in the sun too but she sure enjoyed going into the trailer to cool off every now and then.

Springtime Trip to the Fishing Camp

Last week Mom, Judy, and I had a girl's night away at the camp on Lake Sam Rayburn.

On Thursday, Buddy came up and took us fishing and also took us across the lake to look for the eagles he had seen week before last.  We didn't see them but we enjoyed our boat ride anyway.

We had great weather and just really enjoyed taking  in
the beauty of the spring-time happenings.

caught a fish and was working on getting it down.

Last Saturday was such a beautiful day so we decided to go fishing.  We put the boat in at Martin Dies State Park which is just below where the Angelina and Neches Rivers come together at Lake Steinhagen. We didn't have much luck with the fishing, but I really enjoyed the boat ride and just being out on the river.

This is a beautiful place I like to go called the Bee Tree Slough.  It's an area between the two rivers and we usually see a few alligators and lots of birds here.  We've seen swallow-tailed kites, great blue herons, owls, and a variety of birds while winding through the swampy forest.

If you use your imagination you can see little faces on some of these cypress knees.

We once took a guided canoe trip through this area - about an 8 mile trip I think and it was probably one of the hardest things I've ever done.  I enjoyed it but I've never been so sore in all my life.  There was not much of a current the day we went so we really had to do some paddling.  We saw a group canoeing and kayaking on Saturday but the current was strong so they were having an easy trip.
Sadie enjoyed the day too!

And since we didn't catch even one fish guess where we had to stop on our way home!!!
