SIMPLE JOYS
A Poem by Emily Matthews

See the little sandpiper
Running along the shore
As the tide rolls up to meet him
Where his footprints were before?

He seems in such a hurry
I can’t help but wonder why
He doesn’t even pause to see
Just what he’s passing by~

The brilliant gems of sunlight
That glitter on the sea,
The tranquil blue of endless skies,
And breezes, light and free….

How often, like the sandpiper,
We run our days away,
Arriving at a peaceful place
Without the time to stay.

Our lives can get so busy
As we take on more and more,
Less time is left for simple joys
Than just the day before.

Yet, its gifts like LOVE and FRIENDSHIP
And the things that make us smile
That make our lifelong journey
A blessing every mile.
