Alaskan Cruise - On to Sitka - Our Second Port of Call

We left Juneau at 6 p.m. and headed for Sitka for our scheduled 8 a.m. arrival the next day.  The scenery between the two places was pretty spectacular!

The next morning I woke up early as usual.  For one thing sunrise was about 4 a.m.  At home I’m usually up at the first sign of daylight if not earlier so it was very hard for me to sleep past 4.  After having a cup or two of coffee to get me going, I headed out to the deck and took picture after picture as we cruised into Sitka.  The sunrise was just beautiful!

There were fishing boats all around us.

Near Sitka there are many very small islands and beautiful homes.

I think Sitka was probably my favorite of all our ports of call.  It was so clean and pretty with beautiful flowers planted everywhere and Russian architectural design seen in houses, churches, and other buildings around town along with totem poles and memorials honoring the original settlers, the Tlingits.

We visited the Alaska Raptor Center where we were able to get some pretty good eagle pictures.
I'll be posting these soon.

I love this time of year – the colors of fall but especially the food of fall – pumpkin, sweet potatoes, fresh apples, and almost anything with cinnamon!  One day this week I made Pumpkin Cornbread, Pumpkin Caramel Cake, and Pumpkin Bread.   I’ll share the Pumpkin Caramel Cake recipe soon – it was very good!

Oh how we love pumpkin season.

You did know this gourd-ish squash has its own season, right?

Lighthouses Along Our Way - Alaskan Cruise

We saw several lighthouses as we were cruising around Alaska.  I wish there was a system where the captain or someone would announce things as we passed by them.  Now I wonder how many lighthouses I missed!

This one I remember taking the picture but it was quite far away and I didn't realize that it was a lighthouse until I got home and cropped the picture!

Point Retreat Lighthouse
(for interesting history of this lighthouse read more here.)

Located on the northern tip of ninety-mile-long Admiralty Island, which is bordered by Stephens Passage on the east and Chatham Strait on the west.

Rockwell Lighthouse
Sitka, Alaska
This lighthouse is actually a vacation rental.  Wouldn't it be a fun place to stay!   You can find out all the details here.

Ogden Point Breakwater Lighthouse
Victoria,  BC

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
– 2 Corinthians 4:6 (NIV)

We are told to let our light shine, and if it does,we won't need to tell anybody it does.
Lighthouses don't fire cannons to call attention to their shining-
they just shine.

- Dwight L. Moody

Hope you have a good week!  Can't believe it's almost August already!
