Sugarite Canyon State Park, New Mexico

I'm so glad we discovered this state park in New Mexico. I had never heard of it but found it while looking for a one night stop near Raton Pass in New Mexico. It was so nice and quiet and was a great place for birds and wildlife. The park host said there were bears in the park a couple of weeks before we were there but we didn't see any.

This area was once the site of a thriving coal-mining camp and trails are maintained through the ruins of the settlement and past coal dumps and mines. We didn't take any of these trails but we did drive to the Lake Mayola.

There were so many interesting kinds of plants and lots of wildlife here.

O Lord, how many and varied are Your works! In wisdom have You made them all; the earth is full of Your riches and Your creatures.
